Or, er, something like that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nearly 400 years later,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/billie-eilish\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Billie Ei<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/6qqNVTkY8uBg9cP3Jd7DAH?si=REfaednETaSfC3vDRcAVMQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lish<\/a>&nbsp;disrupted the world of music with just one exclamation: \u2018Bad Guy\u2019s apathetic, iconic \u201cDuh!\u201d While perhaps not&nbsp;<em>quite<\/em>&nbsp;as revelatory (but certainly more succinct), it certainly unlocked a new timeline for everything that followed; proof that weird, homemade pop couldn\u2019t just hang with the best of them, but beat them, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New standalone single \u2018Therefore I Am\u2019 is a bruising statement that picks up where 2018\u2019s \u2018Copycat\u2019 and \u2018You Should See Me In A Crown\u2019 left off. At that time, Eilish felt slighted by the impersonators, in the former claiming that the pretenders were merely in italics, while Billie \u201c<em>in bold<\/em>\u201d. Low-key brutal. Everyone wanted more than just a piece of her, but to wholesale pinch her style. On \u2018Therefore I Am\u2019, she\u2019s had enough of that shit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Therefore I Am\u2019 shares DNA with the laid-back funk of her 2019 debut album\u2019s (the staggering \u2018When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?\u2019)&nbsp;\u2018All The Good Girls Go To Hell\u2019 and \u2018My Strange Addiction\u2019, sharing the same glitchy beats and rhythm, but there\u2019s more playfulness this time around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Built upon a sturdy bassline \u2013 one that\u2019s less confrontational than anything on that debut \u2013 the song sees her separate herself from the coattail-riders, dismissing them with a string of cutting ripostes.
